In the imagined taxonomy of its fictional universe, Apainotteista is placed within the animal kingdom, the Mollusca phylum, and the Cephalopoda class. Within that setting, it is described as a member of the Ammonoidea (a widely used fictional lineage in many world-building projects), belonging to a designated family called Apainotteistidae. The name itself is presented as deriving from a constructed language within the story, intended to suggest a lineage with distinctive, shared features.

Morphologically, Apainotteista is depicted as having a moderately to strongly ribbed, discoidal shell with a broad whorl profile. The shell is described as smooth on the surface with subtle growth lines and a pronounced ventral area. In the story, the siphuncle is placed toward the ventral side, a trait used to distinguish Apainotteista from related lineages in the same fictional ecosystem.
