Antyarytmiczna

Antyarytmiczna refers to a group of medications used to treat cardiac arrhythmias, which are irregular heartbeats. These drugs work by affecting the electrical activity of the heart. Different classes of antiarrhythmic drugs target specific ion channels or receptors involved in the generation and conduction of electrical impulses in the heart muscle.

Class I antiarrhythmics, for example, block sodium channels, slowing down the speed of electrical conduction. Class II agents are beta-blockers, which reduce the heart rate and the force of contraction by blocking the effects of adrenaline. Class III drugs primarily prolong the action potential duration by blocking potassium channels, which can help to prevent the rapid re-excitation of heart cells. Class IV antiarrhythmics are calcium channel blockers, which slow down the electrical conduction through the AV node and reduce heart rate.

The choice of antiarrhythmic medication depends on the specific type of arrhythmia, the patient's overall health, and potential drug interactions. These medications are prescribed by healthcare professionals and require careful monitoring due to potential side effects, which can include worsening of the arrhythmia, heart block, or other cardiovascular issues. Antiarrhythmic therapy aims to restore a normal heart rhythm, reduce symptoms like palpitations or dizziness, and prevent serious complications such as stroke or sudden cardiac death.
