Antrimin

Antrimin is a proposed borough in Northern Ireland, envisaged under the Northern Ireland local government reform. The proposed borough would encompass the existing Borough of Ballymena, the Antrim District, and part of the Causeway Coast and Glens District.

The Antrimin proposal aimed to simplify and streamline local government in the area. However, the idea was met with opposition from various quarters. Critics argued that the proposal neglected the specific needs and identities of the different communities and municipalities in the area.

On the flip side, proponents of the plan argued that it would result in more efficient and cost-effective local government, as well as greater opportunities for economic development and cooperation. However, public consultations and scrutiny by local residents and community leaders stalled the proposal.

In 2015, it was announced that the three councils of Antrim, North Antrim, and Ballymena would form a new larger district. As a result, the Antrimin proposal was effectively scrapped in favor of a more nuanced and consent-based plan to reorganize local government across Northern Ireland. The new arrangement took effect in April 2015.
