Anségisel

Anségisel was a Frankish nobleman who lived in the 7th century. He was the son of Chugnebert and the father of Saint Arnulf of Metz. Little is known about his early life, but he was a prominent figure in the Merovingian kingdom.

He is primarily known for his marriage to Begga, a noblewoman and daughter of Pepin of Landen, also known as Pepin the Elder. This marriage connected two powerful families within the Frankish aristocracy. Anségisel and Begga had several children, the most famous of whom was Arnulf, who later became Bishop of Metz and a significant figure in the Carolingian dynasty.

Anségisel's family played a crucial role in the transition of power in the Merovingian kingdom. Through his son Arnulf and Arnulf's descendants, Anségisel is considered an ancestor of the Carolingian rulers, including Charles Martel and Charlemagne. His lineage contributed to the political landscape of the Frankish realm for centuries.
