Anonim

Anonim is an adjective and noun used in several languages to describe someone or something that is not identified by name. It is etymologically derived from the Greek anónymos, meaning nameless, from a- (without) and onoma (name). The term passed into Latin as anonymus and into French as anonyme, from which English and many other languages inherited forms such as anonymous.

In Turkish, Indonesian, Romanian and related languages, the form anonim or its direct cognates function as the standard word for anonymous. The term can also be encountered in contexts where identity is intentionally withheld, or where the author or speaker chooses not to disclose a name.

In discourse and practice, anonimous usage covers several domains. In journalism, an anonymous source or author is one who does not reveal their identity. In online environments, anonymous posting and anonymous accounts refer to users who have not disclosed or who conceal their identity. In privacy and digital rights discussions, anonymity is considered a balance between protecting personal privacy and ensuring accountability. The word may also appear in brand names, titles, or transliterations in non-English contexts.
