Anlassschalter

Anlassschalter, also known as ignition switches, are electrical components used to start and stop the engine of a vehicle or other machinery. They are typically located on the steering column or dashboard and are operated by a key or a button. The primary function of an anlassschalter is to connect the battery to the starter motor, which then cranks the engine.

In most automotive applications, the anlassschalter has several positions. The "off" position disconnects all power. The "accessory" or "acc" position allows electrical accessories like the radio and power windows to operate without the engine running. The "on" or "ignition" position powers the vehicle's electrical systems, including the fuel pump and ignition system, preparing the engine for starting. The "start" position engages the starter motor, and it typically springs back to the "on" position once the engine has started.

Modern vehicles may also feature keyless entry and start systems, where the anlassschalter is replaced by a push-button start. In these systems, a proximity sensor detects the presence of a key fob, and the driver presses a button to initiate the starting sequence. Despite these advancements, the fundamental principle of controlling the flow of electrical power to start the engine remains the same.
