Anhydrazes
Anhydrazes are a class of chemical compounds that are formally derived from carboxylic acids by the removal of one molecule of water from two molecules of the acid. They are characterized by the presence of a functional group with the general structure R-CO-O-CO-R', where R and R' are alkyl or aryl groups. The anhydride linkage, -CO-O-CO-, is a key feature of these molecules.
The simplest anhydride is acetic anhydride, derived from acetic acid. Anhydrides are typically formed by reacting
