Amphoteeriset

Amphoteeriset refers to a specific characteristic of certain chemical compounds, particularly acids and bases. Substances exhibiting amphoteeriset properties are capable of reacting as both an acid and a base. This means they can donate a proton (act as an acid) or accept a proton (act as a base) depending on the chemical environment they are in. Water itself is a prime example of an amphoteerinen substance. In the presence of a stronger acid, water will act as a base, accepting a proton. Conversely, in the presence of a stronger base, water will act as an acid, donating a proton. Many metal hydroxides also display amphoteeriset behavior. For instance, aluminum hydroxide can react with strong acids to form aluminum salts and with strong bases to form aluminates.
