Amerigos

Amerigos is the plural form of the Italian given name Amerigo, used to refer to people who bear that name. The name Amerigo itself is the Italian form of Americus, derived from Latin and ultimately of Germanic origin. The most famous bearer is Amerigo Vespucci (1454–1512), the Italian explorer after whom the continents of the Americas are named.

The name is relatively rare in contemporary usage and outside of Italian-speaking communities. It appears in literature and film as a character name, such as Amerigo Bonasera in The Godfather, though the latter is fictional.
