Alveringem

Alveringem is a municipality located in the Belgian province of West Flanders. It is situated in the Westhoek region, near the border with France. The municipality was formed in 1977 through the fusion of several smaller villages, including Alveringem itself, Bevrijding, Buiten, Geren, Gravene, Hoogstade, Leisele, Sint-Jan-in-Eremo, Sint-Rijkers, Sint-Silvester, Stavele, and Zoutenaaie.

The landscape of Alveringem is characterized by flat polders, crisscrossed by numerous drainage ditches and canals. Agriculture is a significant economic activity in the area, with crops like sugar beets, potatoes, and grains being widely cultivated. The region is also known for its dairy farming.
