Alumiiniumalküüle

Alumiiniumalküüle are organoaluminium compounds with the general formula R3Al, where R is an alkyl group. They are a class of highly reactive chemicals that find significant use in various industrial processes. Common examples include trimethylaluminium (Al(CH3)3) and triethylaluminium (Al(C2H5)3).

These compounds are typically synthesized through reactions involving aluminium metal, an alkyl halide, and a reducing agent like sodium. They are often colorless liquids or solids, depending on the specific alkyl group. Due to their high reactivity, particularly with air and moisture, aluminium alkyls are usually handled under inert atmospheres.

Aluminium alkyls are widely employed as co-catalysts in the Ziegler-Natta polymerization of olefins, a process crucial for the production of plastics like polyethylene and polypropylene. They also serve as reducing agents in organic synthesis and as precursors for the synthesis of other organometallic compounds.
