Alttarin

Alttarin is a coastal town in the western region of Eldoria, a fictional continent used in fantasy literature. It serves as the administrative center of Alttarin District and sits on the sheltered harbor of Silver Cove, facing a broad bay whose trade winds support a modest fishing fleet and seasonal shipping.

The name Alttarin is believed to derive from older river tongue roots meaning "shoreward rise." The town is built along a natural ridge that runs parallel to the shore, with the old town occupying higher ground and the harbor district below.

Historically, Alttarin grew as a trading post during the early Middle Ages, prospering through timber, salted fish, and grain. It endured a major port fire in 1429 AE and was rebuilt with stone structures. In modern times, it has developed a small manufacturing quarter and a ferry link to neighboring ports.

Governance is provided by a municipal council led by an alcalde. The economy centers on fishing, ship repair, and artisanal crafts, with a weekly market attracting traders from across the bay. The town also maintains a lighthouse complex and a network of wharves and warehouses.

Culturally, Alttarin hosts the Festival of Lanterns in late autumn, celebrating seafaring heritage with craft stalls, sea-shanties, and lantern parades. Notable landmarks include the Stone Gate, the Old Market, and the Alttarin Lighthouse.
