Altenpleen

Altenpleen is a municipality in the Vorpommern-Rügen district, in the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. It is situated on the island of Rügen, approximately 7 kilometers east of Stralsund. The municipality encompasses several villages and hamlets, including Altenpleen itself, Großsby, Kasnevitz, and Sachsevitz.

Historically, the area has been inhabited since prehistoric times, with archaeological finds indicating settlement in the Neolithic period. During the medieval era, the region was part of the Duchy of Pomerania. Like much of Rügen, Altenpleen's development was influenced by agriculture and fishing.
