Alphatocotrienol is a member of the tocotrienol family, which are a group of fat-soluble compounds belonging to the vitamin E complex. It is one of four tocotrienol isomers, alongside betatocotrienol, gammatocotrienol, and deltatocotrienol. These isomers differ in the arrangement of methyl groups on their chromanol ring. Alphatocotrienol is characterized by having methyl groups at the 5, 7, and 8 positions of the chromanol ring. The side chain is unsaturated, distinguishing it from tocopherols, which have a saturated phytyl side chain.
