Alkuperäiseen is a Finnish word derived from the adjective alkuperäinen, meaning “original” or “native.” In this form the word appears in the allative case, which indicates movement toward a destination, and can be translated as “to the original” or “into the original.” The allative ending –seen is attached to the strong stem alkuperä‑, producing alkuperäiseen.
