Alemannicera

Alemannicera is a hypothetical genus of extinct mammals that has been proposed to exist in the Oligocene epoch, approximately 33 to 23 million years ago. The name Alemannicera is derived from "Alemanni," an ancient Germanic confederation, and "mikros," the Greek word for small, referencing the proposed small size of the animal.

The primary evidence for Alemannicera comes from fragmentary fossil remains, primarily teeth and jaw fragments, discovered in what is now southwestern Germany. These fossils exhibit characteristics that some paleontologists believe are distinct enough to warrant classification as a new genus. The teeth suggest an herbivorous or omnivorous diet.

The proposed taxonomic placement of Alemannicera has been a subject of debate. Some researchers have suggested a possible relationship with early rodents or other small placental mammals, while others remain unconvinced by the limited fossil material. The scarcity of complete skeletons and the fragmented nature of the finds make definitive classification challenging.
