Albertonitia
Albertonitia is a genus of extinct marine bivalve mollusks that lived during the Early Cretaceous period, approximately 145 to 100 million years ago. The genus is named after the town of Alberton in South Africa, where the first fossils were discovered. Albertonitia is characterized by its small, oval-shaped shells, which are typically less than 2 centimeters in length. The shells have a smooth, rounded surface and are composed of calcite, a form of calcium carbonate.
The genus Albertonitia is part of the family Pectinidae, which includes modern scallops and their relatives.
Albertonitia is known from several fossil sites in South Africa, including the Karoo Basin and the Transvaal
