Akrylaattiyksiköistä (acrylate units) are the fundamental building blocks of polymers known as polyacrylates. These units are derived from acrylic acid or its esters. In a chemical context, an acrylate unit typically refers to the repeating monomer structure within a polymer chain. For example, in polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), the repeating unit is derived from methyl methacrylate, and this repeating structure can be considered an akrylaattiyksikkö.

These units are characterized by a vinyl group (CH2=CH-) attached to a carbonyl group (C=O), which is further bonded to an oxygen atom. The specific nature of the group attached to the oxygen atom (the R group in CH2=CH-COO-R) determines the properties of the resulting polymer. Common examples include methyl acrylate (R = CH3), ethyl acrylate (R = C2H5), and butyl acrylate (R = C4H9).
