Akrostic

An akrostic is a poetic device in which the first letter of each line, or the first letter of each word, spells out a specific word, name, or message. This hidden message is typically read vertically down the poem. The word "akrostic" itself originates from the Greek words "akros" meaning "outermost" and "stichos" meaning "line of verse".

Akrostics can vary in complexity. The simplest form uses the first letter of each line to form the word. More elaborate forms might use the first letter of each word in a line, or even the middle or last letters. The content of the akrostic can be anything, but it often relates to the word or message being spelled out, creating a thematic connection. For example, a poem spelling out "SUN" might describe the warmth and light of the sun.
