Ajateltavan

Ajateltavan is the genitive singular form of the Finnish adjective-participle ajateltava, which comes from the verb ajatella, meaning “to think” or “to consider.” The participle verkk is used as an adjective meaning “to be thought about” or “to be considered.” When ajateltava modifies a following noun that is in the genitive, the form changes to ajateltavan, yielding phrases that express “the X to be considered.”

In practice, ajateltavan appears in noun phrases where the head noun is in genitive, for example: ajateltavan vaihtoehdon valinta (“the choice of the option to be considered”) and ajateltavan idean keskustelu (“the discussion of the idea that can be contemplated”). Another common construction is ajateltavan asian ratkaiseminen (“solving the matter that is to be contemplated”).
