Agfa

Agfa, short for Agfa-Gevaert Group, is a multinational imaging company headquartered in Mortsel, Belgium. Its origins lie in 19th-century Germany as a producer of dyes and photographic materials. In 1964, Agfa merged with Gevaert Photo-Product of Belgium to form Agfa-Gevaert Group, a company focused on imaging and printing technologies. The name Agfa continues to be used for its imaging brands and products.

Today, Agfa operates in three main business areas: Graphic Systems, HealthCare, and Industrial Imaging. Graphic Systems develops computer-to-plate printing plates, prepress software, workflow and color-management solutions for the offset printing industry. HealthCare supplies medical imaging equipment and information technology, including digital radiography detectors, computed radiography, and radiology information systems. Industrial Imaging provides imaging solutions for non-destructive testing and material inspection, as well as specialized imaging materials and services.

Historically associated with photographic film and color film brands, Agfa transitioned to digital imaging and IT solutions in the late 20th century and continues to invest in digital workflows and imaging infrastructure crossing photography, printing, and health care. The company operates globally and is part of the broader Agfa-Gevaert Group, with activities spanning Europe, the Americas, and Asia-Pacific.
