Aethelflaed was a prominent Anglo-Saxon noblewoman and ruler who lived in the 9th and 10th centuries. She was the eldest daughter of Alfred the Great, King of Wessex, and his wife Ealhswith. Born around 870 AD, Aethelflaed married Aethelred, the Ealdorman of Mercia, in 887.
