Accions

Accions is a Catalan word with two principal meanings. In everyday language, accions is the plural of acció, meaning actions or deeds. In finance, accions is the standard Catalan term for shares or stocks, representing ownership in a company and entitling the holder to certain rights and potential dividends.

Etymology and scope: Acció derives from Latin actio. The financial sense of accions likely reflects the idea of ownership or claims on a company. In Catalan-speaking markets, accions is used in stock market contexts and corporate communications to denote equity securities.

Usage: The word must be interpreted from context. When referring to behavior or steps, accions means actions: for example, “Les accions del pla són clau per al seu èxit” (the actions of the plan are key for its success). When discussing finance, “comprar accions” means buying shares: “Va comprar accions de diverses empreses.” The plural follows regular Catalan agreement: “les accions,” “algunes accions.” The term accionistes is used for shareholders, who have drets de vot i drets a dividends.
