Abweichungsmaße

Abweichungsmaße, also known as measures of dispersion or variability, are statistical tools used to quantify the amount of variation or spread within a dataset. They provide insights into the consistency and reliability of data points. Common measures of dispersion include the range, variance, standard deviation, and interquartile range.

The range is the simplest measure, calculated as the difference between the maximum and minimum values in a dataset. While easy to compute, it is sensitive to outliers and does not consider the distribution of data points.

Variance is a more comprehensive measure, representing the average of the squared differences from the mean. It provides a sense of how spread out numbers are, but its units are squared, making interpretation challenging.

The standard deviation is the square root of the variance. It is widely used because it is in the same units as the original data, making it easier to interpret. A lower standard deviation indicates that the values tend to be close to the mean, while a higher standard deviation indicates greater variability.

The interquartile range (IQR) is the range between the first quartile (Q1) and the third quartile (Q3). It is robust to outliers and provides a measure of the spread of the middle 50% of the data.
