AUXliitäntöjä, short for auxiliary input, refers to a common audio connection found in a wide variety of electronic devices. It allows for the input of audio signals from external sources into a device's sound system. Typically, this connection utilizes a 3.5mm (1/8 inch) stereo mini-jack.

Devices commonly equipped with AUX inputs include car stereos, portable speakers, home stereo systems, and even some musical instruments. The primary function of an AUX input is to enable users to play audio from sources like smartphones, MP3 players, or laptops through the speakers of the host device. This is achieved by using an auxiliary cable, which has a 3.5mm connector on both ends. One end is plugged into the audio output of the source device, and the other end is plugged into the AUX input of the playback device.

The signal transmitted through an AUX connection is typically analog. This means that the digital audio data from the source device is converted into an analog electrical signal before being sent to the playback device. While AUX connections are straightforward and widely compatible, they do not offer digital audio transmission benefits such as higher fidelity or the ability to transmit control signals. Despite the rise of digital and wireless audio technologies like Bluetooth, AUX inputs remain prevalent due to their simplicity, affordability, and broad compatibility across numerous audio devices.
