8K resolution refers to a display resolution with a horizontal pixel count of approximately 8,000 pixels. More specifically, it typically denotes a resolution of 7680 pixels horizontally and 4320 pixels vertically, totaling 33,177,600 pixels. This is four times the number of pixels found in 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) resolution and sixteen times the number of pixels in Full HD (1920 x 1080). The increased pixel density of 8K resolution allows for greater detail, sharper images, and a more immersive viewing experience, particularly on larger screens.

While 8K displays are becoming more widely available, content produced in native 8K resolution is still relatively limited. Much of the content viewed on 8K televisions is upscaled from lower resolutions, such as 4K or 1080p. Upscaling technology aims to intelligently add pixels to existing content to match the native resolution of the display, though it cannot perfectly replicate the detail of content originally shot and produced in 8K. The adoption of 8K is also dependent on factors such as the cost of 8K displays and compatible playback devices, as well as the availability of 8K content and sufficient bandwidth for streaming.
