1889–1951 is a chronological span rather than a single event, covering the late 19th century’s innovations and imperial competition, through the upheavals of the mid-20th century. It marks a transition from the long nineteenth century to a newly dominant, modern global order shaped by industrialization, mass communication, and shifting political ideals.

Political and military history within this period includes two world wars, revolutions, and the dissolution of empires. World War I (1914–1918) and the Russian Revolution (1917) reshaped borders and governance.
