It was discovered on 16 October 2001, by astronomers at the Lincoln Laboratory ETS in Socorro, New Mexico. The asteroid is approximately 3.5 kilometers in diameter and has an orbital period of about 4.6 Earth years. Its orbit is moderately eccentric and inclined, with an average distance from the Sun of 2.79 astronomical units. The asteroid's spectral type is classified as X-type, indicating a primitive composition rich in carbonaceous materials. 125149 has not been visited by any spacecraft, and its surface features and composition remain largely unknown.
