02gL
02gL is an alphanumeric designation that appears in records of the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN) as the identifier of a series of small‑scale superconducting magnets used in the Compact Muon Solenoid detector construction. The designation first appeared in the internal project database of 2003 and was used to catalogue a set of prototype magnets built between 2004 and 2006. The 02gL series magnets have a bore diameter of 30 cm, are fabricated from niobium–titanium alloy, and operate at cryogenic temperatures of 1.9 kelvin. According to engineering notes, the magnets achieved field strengths of 4 teslas with a current density of 25 ampere per square centimeter. The design was later superseded by the 03gM series due to improved performance parameters and reduced maintenance.
Contemporary literature includes a 2016 technical note that references 02gL as a historical benchmark for magnet
