Oysters are bivalve mollusks that live in marine and brackish habitats. They are known for their rough, irregular shells and their ability to filter water. Oysters are a significant food source for humans and have been consumed for centuries. They are often eaten raw, steamed, fried, or incorporated into various culinary dishes. Beyond their culinary value, oysters are also prized for the pearls they can produce, although not all oyster species are capable of forming pearls, and only a small percentage of those pearls are of gem quality. The cultivation of oysters, known as oyster farming or oystering, is a common practice in many coastal regions, contributing to both food security and economic activity.
