Õhuvahetussüsteem refers to a system designed to regulate the exchange of air within a building or enclosed space. Its primary function is to introduce fresh outdoor air and exhaust stale indoor air. This process is crucial for maintaining good indoor air quality by removing pollutants, moisture, and carbon dioxide, while also supplying oxygen.

There are several types of õhuvahetussüsteem. Natural ventilation relies on the pressure differences created by wind and temperature gradients to move air through openings like windows and doors. Mechanical ventilation, on the other hand, uses fans to force air movement, offering more control over the ventilation rate. Heat recovery ventilation (HRV) and energy recovery ventilation (ERV) systems are advanced forms of mechanical ventilation that pre-condition incoming fresh air by transferring heat and/or moisture from the outgoing stale air, thereby saving energy.
