Ümbermõõdul

Ümbermõõdul is an Estonian term that translates to "circumference" in English. It refers to the continuous line forming the boundary of a closed geometric figure. For a circle, the circumference is the distance around its perimeter. The formula to calculate the circumference of a circle is C = πd, where C represents the circumference, π (pi) is a mathematical constant approximately equal to 3.14159, and d is the diameter of the circle (the distance across the circle through its center). Alternatively, if the radius (r), which is half the diameter, is known, the formula can be expressed as C = 2πr.

The concept of ümbermõõdul is not limited to circles. For other shapes, such as polygons, the ümbermõõdul is simply the sum of the lengths of all its sides. For example, the ümbermõõdul of a square is four times the length of one of its sides, and the ümbermõõdul of a rectangle is twice the sum of its length and width. In a broader sense, ümbermõõdul can be used to describe the perimeter or boundary of any two-dimensional shape. It is a fundamental concept in geometry, applied in various fields including architecture, engineering, and physics, for tasks ranging from calculating the amount of fencing needed for a circular garden to determining the distance traveled by a point on a rotating wheel.
