Östergothia

Östergothia, officially Östergötlands län, is a county in the southeast of Sweden. Its capital is the city of Linköping. The county is situated on the eastern coast of Sweden, bordering the Baltic Sea. It is bordered by the counties of Södermanland, Örebro, Jönköping, and Kalmar. Östergothia is one of Sweden's most populous counties, with a population of over 450,000 people.

The landscape of Östergothia is varied, featuring fertile plains, rolling hills, and extensive forests. The Göta Canal, a historic waterway, runs through the county, connecting the Baltic Sea to Lake Vättern. The county has a rich history, with evidence of human settlement dating back to the Stone Age. Several significant historical sites are located here, including the ancient settlement of Birka, though Birka is now on the island of Björkö in Lake Mälaren and not within Östergötland.
