Ångtätningslager

An ångtättningslager, or vapor barrier layer, is a crucial component in building construction designed to prevent the passage of moisture vapor from the interior of a building to its exterior. This layer is typically installed on the warm side of the insulation, which in most climates is the interior face of the wall or roof assembly. Its primary function is to control the movement of water vapor, which can otherwise condense within the building envelope.

Condensation within the building structure can lead to a variety of problems, including mold growth, rot, and reduced insulation performance. By creating an effective barrier, the ångtättningslager helps maintain the integrity and longevity of the building materials. Common materials used for ångtättningslager include polyethylene sheeting, aluminum foil, and specialized vapor-retarding paints or membranes.

The specific requirements for a vapor barrier can vary depending on the climate zone and local building codes. In colder climates, a more robust vapor barrier is generally needed to prevent interior moisture from migrating outwards and condensing on cold exterior surfaces. Conversely, in very humid climates, the vapor barrier might be placed on the exterior to prevent humid outside air from entering and condensing within the wall. Proper installation is critical to ensure the layer is continuous and free of holes or gaps, which would compromise its effectiveness.
