Üledékkzetek refers to sedimentary rocks in Hungarian. These rocks are formed from the accumulation and cementation of mineral or organic particles on the Earth's surface. The process of formation, known as sedimentation, typically occurs in bodies of water like oceans, lakes, and rivers, but can also happen in arid environments.

The particles that make up sedimentary rocks are called sediment. These can be fragments of pre-existing rocks (clastic sediments), the remains of living organisms (organic sediments), or minerals that precipitate directly from water (chemical sediments). Over geological time, layers of sediment are deposited, compacted by the weight of overlying material, and cemented together by minerals dissolved in groundwater. This process transforms loose sediment into solid rock.

Common types of sedimentary rocks include sandstone, formed from sand grains; shale, composed of clay and silt; limestone, often formed from marine organism shells; and conglomerate, made up of rounded pebbles. Sedimentary rocks are significant because they often contain fossils, providing valuable insights into past life and environments. They are also important sources of natural resources like coal, oil, and natural gas. The study of sedimentary rocks is a fundamental part of geology, helping scientists understand Earth's history and processes.
