Alypuolia refers to the businessmen that founded the Varma Mutual Pension Insurance Company in Finland. Founded in 1917, Varma was established to provide pension insurance to Finnish private sector companies. The initial founders consisted of a group of businesspeople who were successful in their respective industries.

These entrepreneurs recognized the need for a commercial pension insurance system to support the rapidly growing Finnish industrial sector. The creation of Varma followed the establishment of the Mutual Pension Insurance Company, which marked the beginning of commercial pension insurance in Finland.

Initially, Varma operated on a mutual model, where participating companies contributed premiums to the organization to cover pension benefits for directors and shareholders of member companies. In the 1950s and 1960s, women joined the board of Varma as shareholders.

The company's membership grew, expanding beyond the founders' original professional and industrial groups. This expansion enabled Varma to access a broader insurance pool. The business concerns of the founders of Varma and servicing member companies prompted changes in the company's operations and resulted in contributory policy implementations.

Today, Varma is one of the largest private life insurance companies in Finland, behind the likes of Mandatum Life and If Skandiabanken.
