Þryms

Þrymr is a jötunn, a giant, who appears in Norse mythology. He is primarily known for his role in the myth of Thor's lost hammer, Mjölnir. According to the Eddic poem Þrymskviða, Þrymr stole Mjölnir while Thor was asleep and hid it in his hall, demanding the goddess Freyja as his bride in return for its safe return.

Freyja, however, refused to be given to Þrymr. The god Heimdall then proposed a plan: Thor, disguised as Freyja, would travel to Jötunheimr and retrieve the hammer. Thor, initially reluctant to be dressed as a bride, eventually agreed. He was accompanied by Loki, who also disguised himself, this time as Freyja's maid.

Upon arriving at Þrymr's hall, Thor, in his disguise, displayed an unusual appetite and ferocity, which Þrymr attributed to Freyja's eagerness for marriage. During the wedding feast, Thor, still in disguise, retrieved Mjölnir and promptly slew Þrymr and his kin. This myth highlights the cunning and resourcefulness of the gods, as well as the importance of Thor's hammer. Þrymr's story serves as a memorable example of a jötunn's challenge to the Æsir and their eventual defeat.
