Öljynporaus, also known as oil drilling, is the process of creating an artificial opening in the Earth's crust to extract crude oil and natural gas. This complex operation typically involves several stages, beginning with exploration to identify potential hydrocarbon reserves. Once a promising site is located, a drilling rig is set up.

The drilling process itself uses a drill bit rotated at the end of a drill string. As the bit grinds through rock, a drilling fluid, or "mud," is pumped down the drill string and returns to the surface, carrying rock cuttings. This fluid also helps to cool the drill bit and stabilize the wellbore. Casing, a steel pipe, is then cemented into the wellbore to prevent collapse and isolate different geological formations.

Once the target depth is reached, the well is prepared for production. This may involve perforating the casing and cementing at the reservoir level, allowing oil and gas to flow into the well. The extracted hydrocarbons are then brought to the surface and transported for refining. Offshore drilling involves specialized platforms or vessels to access oil and gas reserves beneath the seabed. Environmental considerations and safety protocols are paramount throughout all stages of oil drilling due to the potential risks involved.
