Zakázka is a Czech term that denotes an order or assignment given to a person or company to perform a defined task or deliver goods or services. It is typically defined within a contractual framework and can refer to a single project or ongoing supply arrangements.

The parties involved are usually the zadavatel (the client or purchaser) and the zhotovitel or dodavatel (the contractor or supplier). The relationship is commonly formalized by a contract such as smlouva o dílo (work contract) or kupní smlouva (purchase contract), accompanied by a specification of scope, requirements, timelines, and price.

Elements of a zakázka typically include the scope of work, technical or functional requirements, quality criteria, deadlines or milestones, price and payment terms, conditions for acceptance, penalties for delays, and warranties or after‑sales service. In public sector contexts, a zakázka may be referred to as veřejná zakázka and governed by procurement rules.

Process: a client may issue a request or tender, interested suppliers submit bids, the zakázka is awarded, and a contract is signed. The supplier then performs the work, the client or an auditor inspects and accepts the result, invoices are issued, and payment is made. The arrangement may be terminated for cause or convenience under the contract.

Variants: zakázka can be one‑time (jednorázová) or recurring, and may involve framework agreements or subcontracts. Public orders are subject to specific procedural rules to ensure transparency and competition.
