The Constitution of Finland grants the Finnish Parliament the authority to create and amend laws related to business operations. Yrityslainsäädäntö is shaped by EU directives and Nordic cooperation agreements, as well as national legislation. The key pieces of legislation, such as the Companies Act (Y-tunnuslaki) and the Commercial Code (Kauppakodeksi), provide a framework for business operations.

The latter can be further divided into smaller private enterprises (pieni yksityinen liike). The Finnish Tax Administration (Vero) is responsible for enforcing tax laws, while the Tax Tribunal (Verotoiminta) oversees disputes related to taxation. The National Supervisory Authority for Welfare and Health (Valvira) monitors compliance with regulations in the healthcare and social services sectors.

Yrityslainsäädäntö aims to promote a favorable business environment, supporting entrepreneurship and economic growth. However, it also seeks to protect consumers, employees, and the general public from potential risks associated with business activities. Understandably, company laws and regulations are subject to regular review and updating to reflect changing market conditions and societal needs.
