WSPUHTUMAT, an acronym for Women's Social and Political Union, was a British political organization founded in 1903 by Emmeline Pankhurst and her daughters, Christabel and Sylvia. The WSPU was a significant force in the early 20th-century women's suffrage movement, advocating for women's right to vote in parliamentary elections. The organization was known for its militant tactics, including hunger strikes, protests, and even acts of civil disobedience, which sometimes resulted in arrests and imprisonment of its members. The WSPU's actions were aimed at drawing public attention to the cause of women's suffrage and pressuring the government to grant women the vote. Despite facing significant opposition and legal challenges, the WSPU played a crucial role in the eventual passage of the Representation of the People Act 1918, which granted women over 30 the right to vote. The organization dissolved in 1919, following the achievement of women's suffrage in the UK.
