Vinderosjon is a term that may refer to wind erosion, particularly in Scandinavian-language contexts where it can appear as a compound of vind ("wind") and erosjon ("erosion"). In standard usage, wind erosion, also called aeolian erosion, describes the removal, transport, and deposition of soil and sediment by wind.

The primary processes are deflation (removal of loose particles from the surface), abrasion (wear of surfaces by wind-blown grains), and saltation (grains bouncing along the surface). Entrainment of finer particles into the wind is also a key part of the process. Rates of wind erosion depend on climate, soil properties (such as texture and cohesion), surface cover, and wind power. Arid and semi-arid regions with loose or erodible soils and limited vegetation are typically most susceptible, though windy conditions can affect many landscapes.

Landforms shaped by wind erosion include dunes, loess deposits, desert pavements, yardangs, and ventifacts. Impacts of vinderosjon include soil fertility loss, dust storms that affect air quality and health, infrastructure wear, and changes to landscapes and land use. Erosion rates vary widely, from minimal where soils are stabilized to substantial in bare or disturbed surfaces.

Mitigation measures focus on soil stabilization and protection, such as increasing ground cover, establishing vegetation belts and windbreaks, reducing tillage, and applying moisture or surface roughening techniques to reduce wind speed near the soil surface.
