Vanadiumelementtiä is the Finnish name for the chemical element vanadium. Vanadium is a hard, silvery-gray, ductile, and malleable metal. Its chemical symbol is V and its atomic number is 23. Vanadium is found naturally in some minerals and is also produced industrially.

The primary use of vanadium is in the steel industry. Adding small amounts of vanadium to steel significantly increases its strength, toughness, and heat resistance. Vanadium steel alloys are used in a wide range of applications, including automotive parts, tools, construction materials, and aircraft components.

Beyond its metallurgical applications, vanadium has other uses. Vanadium pentoxide (V2O5) is a common catalyst used in the production of sulfuric acid and other chemical processes. It is also used in the manufacturing of ceramics, glass, and as a pigment. Research is ongoing into the potential use of vanadium in advanced battery technologies, particularly for large-scale energy storage.

Vanadium is essential for some organisms, although its biological role is not as well-understood as many other elements. It plays a role in certain enzymes in some microorganisms. In larger organisms, vanadium is not considered an essential nutrient, but it can be toxic in higher concentrations. The element was discovered in 1801 by Spanish mineralogist Andrés Manuel del Río, who named it after the Roman goddess of beauty, Vanadis.
