Väljalaskefaasis is an Estonian term that translates to "release phase" or "exhaust phase" in English. It refers to the period during the operation of an internal combustion engine when the exhaust gases are expelled from the cylinder. This phase is a crucial part of the four-stroke cycle, following the power stroke and preceding the intake stroke.

The process of the väljalaskefaasis begins after the piston has reached the bottom of its stroke, having completed the combustion and expansion of the fuel-air mixture. The exhaust valve(s) then open, allowing the spent gases to be pushed out of the cylinder. The upward movement of the piston during this stroke drives the exhaust gases through the exhaust port and into the exhaust system. This expulsion of gases is essential for clearing the cylinder to make way for the fresh fuel-air mixture that will be drawn in during the subsequent intake phase.
