Uusimaa, known in Swedish as Nyland, is one of Finland's 19 regions. It lies in southern Finland along the Gulf of Finland. The regional capital and largest city is Helsinki, which also serves as Finland's capital and its primary urban center. The Helsinki metropolitan area dominates the region's population and economy.

The region has a curved coastline with the archipelago of the Gulf of Finland and includes both dense urban areas and rural municipalities. The population is around 1.7 million, making Uusimaa the most populous region in Finland. Major municipalities include Espoo, Vantaa, Porvoo, Lohja, Kerava and Kauniainen.

Uusimaa is Finland's leading economic hub. The services sector, commerce, transport and technology drive growth. The region hosts Helsinki-Vantaa Airport, the Port of Helsinki, and several higher education and research institutions such as the University of Helsinki and Aalto University. The metropolitan area has extensive public transit and road networks.

Uusimaa corresponds to the historic Uusimaa Province and is governed as a region under the Finnish regional system. It comprises 26 municipalities and is served by a regional council and regional state authorities. The area has a long history dating to medieval times, with Helsinki developing from a town founded in the 16th century and expanding into the national capital in the 20th century.
