Tölcsérek, often translated as cones, are geometric shapes characterized by a circular base and a vertex (or apex) connected to every point on the circumference of the base. This creates a smooth, curved surface. The defining feature is this single vertex and the way it tapers from the flat, circular base.

The mathematical definition of a cone is a solid formed by joining a circular base to a point (the vertex) not in the plane of the base by a straight line segment joining the vertex to each point on the perimeter of the base. The line segment from the vertex to the center of the base is called the axis, and if this axis is perpendicular to the base, it is a right circular cone. If the axis is not perpendicular, it is an oblique cone.

In everyday language, the term "tölcsér" can also refer to objects shaped like cones, such as traffic cones, ice cream cones, or funnels. These objects utilize the cone's shape for practical purposes. For example, a funnel's conical shape allows for the efficient transfer of liquids or granular materials, minimizing spillage. Similarly, an ice cream cone provides a convenient and edible vessel for holding ice cream. Traffic cones are designed to redirect traffic and are often brightly colored for visibility.
