Tytärkromosomit, also known as daughter chromosomes, are the two identical chromosomes that result from the replication and subsequent separation of a single chromosome during cell division. In the process of mitosis and meiosis, a cell's chromosomes are duplicated. Each duplicated chromosome consists of two identical sister chromatids held together at the centromere. When the cell divides, these sister chromatids are pulled apart to opposite poles of the cell. Once separated, each chromatid is considered a full, independent chromosome, and these are referred to as daughter chromosomes.
The formation of daughter chromosomes ensures that each new cell produced during division receives a complete
