Tsirkulatsioonisüsteemi, more commonly known as the circulatory system, is a network of organs and vessels that transports blood throughout the body. This system is essential for life, as it delivers oxygen, nutrients, hormones, and other vital substances to all cells and tissues. Simultaneously, it removes waste products such as carbon dioxide and metabolic byproducts.

The primary components of the circulatory system are the heart, blood vessels, and blood. The heart acts as a muscular pump, continuously propelling blood through the vessels. There are two main types of blood vessels: arteries, which carry blood away from the heart, and veins, which return blood to the heart. Capillaries are tiny vessels that connect arteries and veins, forming a vast network where the exchange of substances between blood and tissues occurs.

Blood itself is a fluid connective tissue composed of plasma, red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. Red blood cells are responsible for oxygen transport, white blood cells are crucial for the immune system, and platelets aid in blood clotting.

The circulatory system can be divided into two main circuits: the pulmonary circulation and the systemic circulation. Pulmonary circulation involves the flow of blood between the heart and the lungs, where carbon dioxide is released and oxygen is picked up. Systemic circulation distributes oxygenated blood from the heart to the rest of the body and returns deoxygenated blood back to the heart. This continuous cycle ensures that all parts of the body receive the necessary resources and have waste products removed.
