towarzyszami

Towarzyszami is the instrumental plural form of the Polish noun towarzysz, which denotes a person who accompanies another or shares a task, thus a companion, associate, or comrade. The word comes from the verb towarzyszyć, meaning to accompany. A towarzysz is someone who accompanies, and towarzyszami are the people who do so in a group or event.

In everyday use, towarzyszami describes people who accompany someone in a given situation: travel companions, colleagues on a project, or members of a club or team. The instrumental plural is used after prepositions and verbs that require the instrumental case, as in z moimi towarzyszami podróży (with my travel companions) or byliśmy towarzyszami pracy (we were work companions).

In historical or political contexts, the term has also functioned as a translation of "comrade" (towarzysz) in socialist rhetoric. In modern neutral Polish, the non-political sense is standard, while the political usage appears mainly in texts referring to that era.
