Tokenpohjaista describes a design, approach, or system that relies on digital tokens to represent access, value, or rights within a network or ecosystem. The term is used in Finnish to refer to token-based models in information technology, cybersecurity, and digital economies, and can describe both authentication mechanisms and economic architectures.

In information technology and security, token-based methods use tokens to prove identity or grant access without repeatedly transmitting credentials. Common implementations include session tokens and bearer tokens such as JSON Web Tokens (JWT) issued by an authorization server. OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect are popular frameworks that support token-based authentication and authorization.

In blockchain and digital economies, token-based systems issue digital tokens that represent value, utility, or governance rights within a platform. Tokens may be fungible (interchangeable) or non-fungible (unique). They enable use cases such as in-app currencies, staking, access to services, or voting rights in decentralized organizations.

Benefits of token-based designs include flexible access control, scalable authentication, and clear incentive structures. Challenges include regulatory uncertainty, security risks from token leakage or smart contract bugs, price volatility for value-bearing tokens, and interoperability and standardization considerations.
